Happy Presentation Day 2022

20-November-22
Happy Presentation Day 2022

Monday 21st November is a very important day in our school calendar - it marks Presentation Day. Presentation Day celebrates and commemorates our foundress; the Venerable Nano Nagle. She was a pioneer of Catholic education in Ireland. By the time of her death in 1784 she had opened 7 schools for poor children across Cork city; founded an almshouse for poor women, and most notably, founded the Presentation Order, who continue her education and social inclusion work today. Nano’s family motto was ‘Not words, but Deeds’. We try, every day, to keep Nano Nagle’s lantern of hope and vision alight in Calasanctius College.

Each November, we congregate as a school community to celebrate Mass in her honour in Oranmore church. We take this time to pause, reflect on and remember the great work begun by the Presentation Sisters so many years ago and carried on by our teachers and staff to this very day. As is tradition, our Head Boy (Raphael Hardy) and Head Girl (Molly Whelehan) visited the Nun's Graveyard after mass last Friday to lay a wreath in Nano's honour and as a mark of respect to all the Presentation Sisters who have been involved with Calasanctius College since it first opened it's doors in 1946.

Happy Presentation Day to all our Calasanctius College Community, wherever they may be!
