School Musical
The School Musical is a spectacular annual event for our school, which is showcased in our school auditorium, the Nano Nagle Hall. It is produced on a voluntary basis by staff and students. The students really enjoy partaking is such a wonderful team building exercise and wear their musical school hoodies with great pride! It is a wonderful whole school event, giving students the opportunity to display their talents and leadership skills. There is a large cohort of students involved in back stage preparations. Our school musical is open to all Calasanctius students, their families, local national schools and the wider community. This year’s musical will be "Grease" - full details here.
Cala Ceoil
The aim of this Music group is to provide students with a musical outlet in traditional and modern settings. It has been described as a “Trad Group with a Difference.” Ranging from a simple tin whistle to a saxophone, they aren’t your average traditional Group. The musicians play fiddles, concertinas, accordions, tin whistles, low whistles, flutes, guitars, spoons, a cajon drum and some members also sing and dance. They play traditional music but add a “Jazzy” contemporary twist on many of the pieces.
The group practices regularly and perform for school and local events such as Jigsaw, St. Vincent De Paul, Ceoilchoirm Seachtain Na Gaeilge, Cycle Against Suicide, Trócaire and even go busking on Shop Street! Last year they performed at the NAPD conference in Galway. They also add great energy to our Living Scenes group, who have been known to join them for a seisiún on the odd ocassion! The main element that bonds everyone together is the love of music and the social outlet it provides.
School Choir
The school choir is a fantastic group of incredibly talented you people, spanning all year groups. They practice songs for many events for our school and for our local community. They are involved, on an annual basis, in the school musical, the 1st Yr Mass, Presentation Day Mass, two Christmas carol services (one school based, one community based), Graduation Mass, Open Night, CEIST Conference, assisting in the Leaving Cert practical Music exams and a public concert to showcase the work that has been completed for both the Junior Cycle and Leaving Cert. Our school choir represents our school in any public forum that the school is involved in.
